What is IVF?
An advanced fertility treatment called In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) involves retrieving a woman's eggs, fertilizing them in a lab with sperm, and then transferring the best embryo into her uterus. For people and couples struggling with infertility, IVF offers a methodical and scientific approach to conceive and create the family they have always wanted.
Zemya IVF & Fertility Clinics, a trusted IVF clinic in Delhi, mixes modern technology with kind, patient-first treatment. Through individualized attention and clinical excellence, we aim to make the IVF process more accessible, comfortable, and successful.
When is IVF Recommended?
IVF may be suitable for a wide range of fertility challenges. Our doctors may recommend IVF in the following situations:
- Difficulty conceiving for more than 12 months
- Low sperm count or poor sperm motility
- Irregular ovulation or absence of ovulation
- Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes
- Endometriosis or PCOS
- Repeated failure with IUI or other treatments
- Unexplained infertility after initial evaluations
- Need for genetic testing before pregnancy
If you're uncertain whether IVF is right for you, we offer thorough diagnostic assessments and consultations. Zemya IVF & Fertility Clinics specializes in both male and female infertility treatment in Delhi, offering support for every aspect of reproductive health.
How IVF Works: Step-by-Step
Here’s what to expect through each phase of your IVF cycle:
Step 01
Initial Consultation
Your IVF journey begins with a comprehensive consultation and evaluation. Both partners undergo diagnostic tests including blood tests, hormone panels, ultrasound scans, and semen analysis. This step helps us understand the root cause of infertility and customize your treatment plan.
Step 02
Ovarian Stimulation (Injections Phase)
Once your cycle begins, we start hormone therapy to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Daily hormone injections are administered for 8 to 12 days, with regular ultrasounds and blood tests to monitor your response.
These injections are a key part of the IVF process, helping to increase the number of eggs available for fertilization. Our team will guide you on how and when to take each dose.
Precautions during this phase:
Step 03
Ovulation Trigger and Egg Retrieval
When the follicles are mature, you’ll receive a “trigger shot” to prepare for egg release. About 34–36 hours later, eggs are collected through a minimally invasive procedure under light sedation. The process takes about 15–20 minutes, and you can return home the same day.
Step 04
Fertilization in the Laboratory
The collected eggs are combined with sperm in our IVF lab. In cases where male infertility is a concern, we may perform ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), where a single sperm is injected directly into each egg.
Embryologists then closely monitor fertilized eggs as they grow into embryos over the next 3–5 days.
Step 05
Embryo Transfer
One or more healthy embryos are selected and transferred into the uterus using a thin catheter. This procedure is painless and usually requires no anesthesia. Patients are advised to rest afterward, although normal activity can be resumed within a few hours.
Step 06
Luteal Phase Support and Pregnancy Test
After embryo transfer, you will be prescribed progesterone supplements to support implantation. Approximately 10 to 14 days later, a blood test is conducted to confirm pregnancy.
Throughout this stage, our care team provides emotional support and clear guidance, recognizing that this is often the most emotionally intense part of the IVF journey.
Potential Risks and Complications
IVF is a well-established and safe treatment, but it is important to be aware of potential risks:
- Ovarian HyperStimulation Syndrome (OHSS): A rare complication where the ovaries respond too strongly to fertility medications. Our doctors carefully monitor hormone levels and follicle growth to prevent this.
- Multiple pregnancy: If more than one embryo is transferred, there is a risk of twins or triplets, which can carry additional medical risks. Single embryo transfer (SET) is often recommended. Patient is informed and asked for consent regarding number of embryo transferred
- Emotional stress: IVF can take a toll emotionally. At Zemya IVF & Fertility Clinics, we provide counseling and emotional support at every step.
- Mild side effects: Temporary discomforts like bloating, abdominal cramping, or mood swings are common and manageable.
General precautions during IVF
- Strictly follow your injection and medication schedule
- Avoid alcohol, smoking, and excessive caffeine
- Keep all monitoring appointments without fail
- Get enough rest and stay hydrated
- Avoid heavy lifting or intense exercise after embryo transfer
- Communicate openly with your doctor about any concerns
